Scarcasm and Skepticism (NOT quilt related!)

(This is why I spend time quilting ... instead of dwelling on some of these issues. Stop now, and don’t read further if you don’t want to hear my rantings ...)

What will happen to all of you Bloggers if/when Google, or whoever your Blogger Controller is, decides to charge us for this lovely activity?

Why can I not believe one single piece of rhetoric a politician, or CEO, or high-level businessperson/manager might say?

How can people who earn gazillions dollars talk about saving the planet and claim they want to work on reducing greenhouse gases and solve poverty issues, when they live in a home that requires a ‘staff’, that could house a small town, and feed a small nation?

How can a Congressman who will have a very generous pension for the rest of his life REALLY respond to health care issues for the ‘rest’ of us, like the outrageous and exhorbitant high cost of medical care?

What IS the truth?

Why don’t we hear about the medical/pharmaceutical lobbyists and how much they influence the daily lives of the health care issues of the ‘regular’ citizens?

When are we going to tell the TV news agencies that we don’t believe the importance of much of what they talk about? Do you care that a Hollywood so and so, spent a night in jail, or got arrested for ... whatever? Does the entire nation need to think about that?

Why are we pumping gazillions of dollars in security for our schools, and other places, etc., when we don’t pump one dollar into helping these poor confused and sad people BEFORE they go off the deep end, emotionally?

Why is it, that if you try to actually HELP a person who is in sad emotional state, you can practically get arrested!

When you see someone who is definitely in emotional trouble, why is there NO ONE who can help?

Do you think our thoughts are really our own, or are we being led, like sheep, down a garden path by the media?

When will we all get together and insist that some things are just too much to put up with any longer? Would that be RUDE? Do I care that sometimes I HAVE to be rude to take a stand on an issue? Have we gotten so complacent with our freedom and comfort that we don’t remember how to make changes?

  1. Love the post. I think we need to start speaking out. I can hardly stand to watch the news anymore. I often wonder if it is news or another form on gossip on the airwaves. I don't want anything but the facts. Happy to hear someone else is fed up with it.

  2. Excellent thoughts - -
Did you see the newscaster who refused to read another Paris story and lit it on fire while on camera? We are not alone....

  3. You go, girlfriend!! I agree 100%! We need to clear out DC, and send the Jim Bob(s) from the service stations to try governing our country.

  4. Hear, hear. (though only in the interest of a niggling point, not to defend the majority of them, for Congressmen -- their "pension" is actually a government pension fund like any other government employee. Might even be Social Security these days -- they changed it a bit in the past several years. But then again, most of them have private sources of income before they ever come to office and I can't remember what happens to their fundraising "war chests" if they have $$ left over and/or don't run again)

  6. I found your phase... What is the Truth? to be the key to your post. Unfotunately we don't all see truth the same way.
I used to think I could 'change the world' but now older and wiser I just keep my small nick of the woods in order. Maybe if there were enough nick of the words kept in order, we cold make some difference. I don't know.

  7. I applaud your rant Elaine. I have to have one like this every so often. I cannot for the life of me, see the point, here in Australia, being fed on the alleged 'News' crap about so called 'stars', & their truly crap behaviour, & drunken/drugged exploits. They are just spoilt brats whose wealth enables them to behave badly- & I include many politicians in that- & to me, the media attention only glorifies their selfish ugliness!

  8. Elaine, good job! I agree with you. I often say, who cares what some Hollywood person did. I wouldn't give you 2 cents for any of them! I rarely listen to the news anymore as it is sooo slanted. I agree with one of the other writers, just keep quilting and make a difference locally where and when you can. We do make a difference to those in our communities. Can't change it all but we can change our own backyards! Love your blog!!

  9. Yea Elaine--you said it so well, you know I have much more time to design and quilt since I quit watching the news media. Most of which is just garbage and not even close to fact. And who cares if Paris Hilton is drunk? only the person she ends up killing in a car wreck I suppose!!! I say turn off the tv and QUILT!!!Joan
