Is it Spring yet?

While Loving Care, Light Ash Brown, #75, does it's thing on my flowing tresses, I will return after "hibernation" to take part in more entertaining activities, like posting and blogging. Let's see -- I have 40 minutes to play. I've tried to check into your blogs during my hibernation - hope I haven't missed too much!

Finally, a border solution to my quilt below, which has been named "Checkers Tonight Dearie?" Once the solution was determined, I am wondering why it had become such a problem. Maybe I was just thinking too hard. It's officially a top, and when I purchase 7 yards of ONE fabric for the backing, it will be machine quilted. Thank you all who made sensible suggestions -- I think the successful one was "put it away for awhile."
This was my view very early Christmas morning - how much better can nature be? Such perfect timing. I bundled myself up and went outside early, in the quiet, before the snow-blowers started rumbling, to enjoy the still air. 6-8 inches of much needed snow!
After finishing that "Checkers Tonight Dearie?" project, I just HAD to make a new quilt, after I saw this cute little "Bee" fabric at my LQS. The rest was all stash. This will be a Linus Quilt, and you might recognize the pattern, from our friend Bonnie at www.quiltville.com. This went together in 2-3 days, between other jobs, so if you haven't made one, this is a GREAT little and FAST quilt. I've had the backing fabric (little colorful frogs) for 5 years, bought especially for a particular pattern, but have been using up the coordinated fabrics, so who knows what the original plan was? Looks great here! The inner border and most of the binding is black and white striped which echoes the black and white bee body.

Happy New Year Everyone!

  2. That Checkers Tonight Dearie is a beauty! And the border is setting it off wonderfully. I find Bonnie's ideas wonderful too and today started a border using her "system" too.

  6. I sometimes put things away and then 'conveniently' forget about them. I'm glad you didn't forget about Checkers Tonight Dearie because it is just beautiful. The storm we had yesterday is moving a bit south and will probably hit Iowa and Chicago so you might not get any snow from it, so I'm glad you enjoyed the snow you got on Christmas Day. We have a total of 12" now. Nothing like last year, but it is also -9°F this AM. Brrr.

  7. "Checkers Tonight Dearie?" is spectacular! Well done, the brewing/ fermentation process certainly paid off! Your Christmas morning photo could well be your Christmas card front for next year, it's lovely. The bee quilt is simply too, too cute; destined to be well loved and greatly appreciated.

  11. What a beautiful Christmas morning, Elaine! What I wouldn't give to get a 'snow' this year...sigh. Yes, I'm one of those snow lovers...and we used to have them here, but it's been at least 6 years since we had more than a dusting. :/ Your quilt is another beauty, girl! :) And your Linus quilt is just adorable! Happy Holidays to you, my friend, and wishes for a pieceful, healthy, Happy New Year!

  12. Ok, at the risk of being snotty.....is that border not dangerously close to your original idea?????LOLOL!!!! I had to go back and look! I do the same thing. Reject the first idea and eventually come back to it...or some modification of it. It looks lovely and the dark light of the checkerboard really does make a difference. As usual, great choice. Love it!

  22. Your checkers quilt is fabulous! Faced with that many small squares and triangles I would probably panic. You did a lovely job on it and should be very proud.

I need to look up the Linus quilt thing. Sounds like something I would be interested in.

Are you an ex-Tennessee girl? I saw the picture of Cades Cove you posted 12/30/07. We lived close to the Smokeys for many years.
