Don't listen to me

(mmm something different has happened to Blogger, but it explains some of the comments I've read over the last week. Also, it's taking some patience to find my way around new screens.)

Despite my obtuse directions that no one understood about making this border, and even I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THEM several days after writing them, and after cutting my strips, according to my peculiar dimensions, my corner is meeting just perfectly. My apologies to anyone wondering where I was coming from .... Venus perhaps?

My directions which were clear to me at the time, are a perfect example of something I've admitted publickly, "Sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees!"

Any way, when you do this border using strips, one end of that border is miter-able, but the other? nope - you have unsewing to do. Also, strip method causes another problem on the outside, namely I cannot trim off that extra triangle tip and now MUST add another straight-of-grain strip or it will stretch. Now, I KNOW that -- where was I that day? Oh yes, Venus! I DID remember to stay stitch. Well, I've always said I like to learn things - that personality test I posted reconfirmed that! LOL

But on the positive side, it really DOES flow around the corner well. Happy Day!

  1. Hee hee...I sort of chuckled at your instructions, too. Making something complex is one thing...but trying to find words for all the creative fudging we have to do...well...it's just rocket science, that's all. That's how you got to Venus in the first place, right?

  2. There is something to be said for good flow. Who cares how ya get there? That's why we always buy extra fabric. Hehehee

  3. I absolutely understood everything (I think). I have made a border similar to that one and it worked for me eventually, too. I don't know how I got there, but I did! I remember I had to add a spacer strip so the quilt would be the correct measurement to add the border pieces. I think I sewed the binding on before I cut the squares off. It was a challenge, for sure! Yours is turning out great. Keep up the good work!

  5. Hi Elaine

I haven't visited in a while. I really like the colours and setting you have used in your spool quilt, great border too. Funny how sometimes we don't understand even ourselves (or the instructions we write) :-)

  6. The border looks great! You did a great job even if you had trouble explaining the process. I finally reached the 100th post on my blog (and I'm doing a give away) and I know I would never have been able to keep it up if it would not have been for others like yourself that keep me inspired. Thanks, Terry

  7. I think I needed you when I was making my border! Of course, I jumped through your formula for doing it because I HATE NUMBERS. I think I'm dyslexic anyway when it comes to math.

My border was a lot of put together, place on quilt, adjust strips, rats, doesn't fit, readjust, still doesn't fit, adjust QUILT, maybe it will fit if I pray.
