Mystery Quilt Progress, plus More

Our newspaper said the low temp yesterday was minus 29 degrees. Glad I didn't know that - my thermometer at 7:00 am said only minus 20 degrees! Yikes.
Making progress - my blocks are all finished, pressed and lightly starched. Instead of blue corners, I chose a dark purple which is indistinguishable from much of the greens I used in the 9-patches. With all those pieces in each block I am amazed they fit together so well. I took the time to trim them exactly (well, as close as possible) to the 9 1/2 inches. Yikes, the vacuum cleaner is really filled with snips!. Pieces? 2298. I'm glad I didn't know THAT at the onset, but am VERY pleased with this lovely project, called DD Mystery Quilt from Quiltville.com. A huge THANK YOU BONNIE! YOU ARE A TREASURE!!!

And here is Jody-Goddess's Tobacco Road/Row? all finished and quilted. She has EVERYTHING in those scraps! We call her Jody-Goddess because she can do anything and everything, and all of it is done WELL!
Below is another of Jody's projects - She said this was a (corrected) Debbie Mumm project. How does one quilt a project like this? Aren't those blocks cute? Many of them have black buttonhole stitch around them, giving them even more definition. I can't wait to see it quilted.

  3. Elaine,
Love, love, love your color combination. I too was not happy with the trimming involved but very pleased with the end results. Everything fit together beautifully. I used a small whisk broom to keep up with the snippets. I had to do it often as one of my cats has a very bushy tail. She loves to help me with the cutting process and when she moves around she picks up threads and fabric slivers. Her name is MaggieMay but I call her Magnet as everything sticks to her.

  4. I like the colourway on the mystery quilt, it's great to see them all different. How on earth do you survive with temps like that? It's the opposite in Australia, 117 degrees in Melborne where the Tennis is on. I'm glad I'm not in either place, Sydney is hot enough.

  11. Love your quilt - thought about doing the mystery but know myself well enought to know it was just too big a project. When you do miniatures even a baby quilt seems like a big project!

Can't wait to see it all finished.

  12. Lovely quilt, Elaine. When I am trimming blocks or HST, I want to make a nest in the middle of the pile, spray it with something that will harden it, and have my very own bird's nest. LOL - what a dust collector that would be, but a multi-colored bird's nest looks kind of neat.

  13. As always, your colors are great!!! I have just started the Double Delight, but my colors are pretty much the ones Bonnie used. The Tobacco Road is beatiful ........ again I haven't finished mine. It looks like I really need to get to work!!! Nice job on the quilts........

  14. I think winter is wearing on me - we are iced in today. I don't even feel like sewing! But, I did sit down and make up 4 more blocks on my Happy Jacks. It is good to surf around blogland and see that other people are also indoors due to the weather AND working away on quilting too. I am getting a bit bored with Happy Jacks and wishing to start something new, but I am determined to finish it - I mean really, my quilt doesn't have any where near as many pieces as your absolutely stunning Double Delight!!! Great job!!!
    Cheers! Evelyn
