Coping, and Patience

In the last two months ago, my car was on the fritz, my computer had a virus, my VCR/DVD was eating my beloved quilt tapes and I had been told by ‘reliable sources’ there was no solution other then sending them off to be copied for big $$$, I had fallen on the sidewalk like an incompetent ‘elderly’ woman, there was not a green thing in my yard, I was 5 lbs heavier, I need cataract surgery, my sister was possibly very ill, my friend had a serious accident, and the drain in the basement plugged up and flooded the laundry room.

I had written these stress factors on a piece of paper, as a pitiful excuse for an embarrassing temper outburst, and my DH kept the piece of paper to remind me later that my outlook would be better another day.

Today, my car is OK, my computer is repaired, I have a new VCR/DVD AND instructions on how to copy the VCR contents to the DVDs, I know how to use the newest remote control) my falling-down episode is almost behind me with only minor injuries, the yard is green, I lost 5 lbs, I am putting off cataract surgery since I’ve decided if I can see well enough to sew, that procedure is not critical for now, my sister came through surgery in flying colors with no bad news at all, my friend will recover in time from her accident, and the plumber roto-rooted the drain.

… and we’ve planned a short vacation in several weeks. Huh??? Is there a connection between my fit of temper and DH uncharacteristically planning a vacation?

Some days -- I know it's silly -- I envision myself as a Vivian Leigh character, (near the end of Gone with the Wind, where she is in the dirt field, digging up food with her bare hands) looking heavenward, vowing something like "Tomorrow will be a better day."

Ha, and you all thought I was Ms Patience and Pleasantness! I had you fooled!

  1. Guess we all go through times when everything seems to go the wrong way. But wow a vacation! That sounds like it will be a wonderful outlet. And it will certainly add to your patience and pleasantness :-)

  2. Why does all the bad stuff seem to happen at once? Glad you are through that period!

  3. A little temper fit once in a while is not a bad thing. All the time is bad but that once in a while thing really gets attention, doesn't it?

  4. Sounds like you were probably entitled to an outburst. After all how much can one person take? Fix what you can, then put the rest on the back burner for another day. Happy for you that things are looking up!

  5. Glad to see that things are looking up for you Elaine - life does sometimes feel overwhelming with a bunch of smaller( and not so small too) things that all cost money or be harmful to ourselves or our loved ones.. I have never figured out why life seems to happen like that..everything happening in bunches..
Hope that you have a series of wonderful happy things that brighten your day to balance these past trying times.
    Regards,
    Anna

  8. No, actually I know you're Ms Patience and Pleasantness. It's in your soul. You are human of course but way down deep what shines through in that inner beauty and it's unblemished by all that life has to throw at you when you come out the other side. And that's just the truth.

  9. I am sorry you were having all those difficulties, but I am glad that you are over that period and now can look forward to a vacation. You'll enjoy it all the more knowing how bad it could be.

  12. I was feeling that way on Saturday when I dropped the antique china cabinet I was moving and broke the mirror on the back...and husband was out of town. Yes I know I should have waited to move it. But I didn't. Oh well...today it's upright and I'm no longer crying. Good times always return...thank goodness! blessings, marlene

  13. Hey..it finally rained ---3.78inches..and enough to run the draw for hours, and flood some into the basement. But Thank You God for the moisture. This morning still raining, dark and gloomy but alas it will finally be green. Now if only the cattle prices will stay up...Smile..someone loves you>>

  14. You make me think of Job, who suffered all sorts of awful things and complained a great deal but still "maintained his integrity" because he didn't pretend he was "just fine." Your honest and open sharing of all your adventures and misadventures is affirmation to me when my life goes south! We are all in this together -- life that is, life with its ups and downs, and thankfully, "just fine" does happen now and then!! :-)

  15. I am glad that it seems like things are looking up again for you. It is awful when you feel like bad things are piling up. Glad to hear that things are having happy endings - and it is so worrysome to think that someone you love is really sick, so excellent news about your sister!
    Cheers! Evelyn

  16. Oh dear, now I know it's just not me! Glad to hear the "patience trying" stuff is behind you, and maybe DH KNOWS you need a vacation! After all, that's what makes them "dear" ;~)

  18. Love the second part of the list where you have gotten so many things resolved. It's awful when so many things go wrong at once, aiee! Thank goodness for the little vacation.

  19. I think we all have those patches. However, we dont all have the 'record' to remind us of how dark things were.
So glad you are seeing the light at the end of that tunnel!!

  20. Bad things seem to come in clusters. If it was just one or two of these to cope with at a time, no one would get stressed, but after 7 or 8 "hits" almost anyone would blow their top. Thank goodness your husband is an understanding soul. Sounds like you need that vacation - hope it goes well!

  21. Isn't life a complete roller coaster! The thing I hate is when things are going semismoothly that I think "oh no, when is the bottom going to fall out?" I hate that part. I would like a smooth boat ride for a life. This up and down stuff is so not fun! Glad things are better for you though.

  22. Doesn't it always seem to happen that way - everything all at once? It does for me anyway. Wonderful that your husband has planned a vacation for the two of you. You deserve it!

  23. What a ride you've been on. A vacation is definitely in order!

  24. Your DH is a smart man to have kept the paper to remind times do get better. Even better that he planned a vacation. Have fun!
