huh? an explanation regarding "no reply"

Occasionally one of you tells me I am "No Reply" when you want to respond to my comment, which probably shows up in your e-mail, if your settings are set up like mine. I certainly am NOT set up as "No Reply" , although I cannot remember where that option is.

Today I asked this question of Blogger Help forum, and this is what was replied. I don't really know WHO it is who sent it, but here it is:

No, that's not how it works. The email to the other person is just a confirmation alert that a new comment has been posted. They are not meant to reply to it. This is the same for all blogs.

hmmmm, interesting. I know less than before. If the above is true, then maybe different e-mail programs may allow most of the ability to Reply to those comments???? My settings request an email be sent to me when you leave a comment, and I ALWAYS REPLY to those emails, unless occasionally is says "No Reply."

Comments anyone? What am I missing here .... wahhhh, I am going back to sewing and quilting - I know how to do that! (most of the time)

  1. I've recently heard that blogger changed around some settings, causing everybody to go back to "no reply". I don't know... nobody's commented to me that I'm no reply again.

  2. Yikes, I get notifications in Outlook all the time from people who posted a comment to my blog. Then I reply to those emails, and sometimes it becomes a back and forth chat. So whatever my setup is, I like it. The other folks who look at my blog/comments don't get in on that chat though, which may or may not be what is desired. I'm not sure how it becomes a "no reply" email, and I've never had one of those from a blog comment!

  3. At one point, I turned into a no-reply. You can find the email setting in the 'Edit Profile' on your dashboard, btw.

  4. I have wanted to reply to the comments that you left on my blog, but I don't have your email and the comment came as "No Reply."

Comments from others have email addresses, so I don't know what the solution is.

I try to reply to all comments, but those with "No Reply" do not make that possible. :o(

  5. Another thought: perhaps, if you made sure to "sign in" to your dashboard before you read other blogs and left comments your address might be listed.

  6. I always tell you when you're flipped around so you can trust me. I'll be your handy hall monitor! Maybe we all just have to be friendly support about, ya know? Help one another out and say "hey, you're settings are hosed!" :)

  7. Like Paula said, go to Edit my Profile, put a check mark in front of Show my email and then SAVE. The word email should then appear on your profile page and any comment you leave will automatically have your email address in it.

  8. Everytime you have commented on my blog I have been able to reply to you through my email so maybe it depends on what mail program you are using. It's all a mystery to me.

  9. I've noticed several bloggers that used to show an address(including you) have become no-reply when I receive the email notice. It started about a month ago, I think. I think there was a glitch that affected only some people. Maybe it depends on the server or browser you use. Maybe you just need to go to your profile and reset it.

I have always replied to comments directly from the email copy but my problem is that they go to my "trash" box instead of my "in" box for some reason. I've never figured out why.

  10. I know something has changed but I don't know what... I used to get anonymous e-mails in my e-mail box or a bunch of no-reply e-mails altogether. Somewhere along the line that stopped but I don't know why. So I don't really know who has commented unless I go to the comment box now. I'm not sure that is handier or not...

  11. Hope you were able to go into your profile and fix this, it's an easy one and it always frustrated me on blogger when I couldn't respond back to someone. The nice thing about Wordpress is that people have to leave their email address to comment. They only have to type it once and then it's remembered but it's so nice to be able to respond to ALL questions I get asked.

  13. It was me that told you that your msg was no reply. Obviously I have your email address so I could reply. but blogger has been doing that once in a while. I got zapped too. Just go to your profile and change it back. But if no one tells you, you don't realize that you are no-reply. There have been a few other changes that I am unhappy about, like I can no longer cut and paste in my blog. I wonder if they have a suggestion box?

I no longer will accept Anonymous comments. I hope my adjustments to Comments do not cause anyone hardships.
