Orca Bay, Top Done

I have GOT to find my own "name" for this quilt!  OB just doesn't do it for me!  8-)  Maybe "Stubborn Determination" or "Forever Yours" or "Eternal Deliberation" ... you get my drift.   I am thrilled with the end result and satisfied with my own "stick-to-it-nive-ness."  End size is 82" x 92".  Thank you, Bonnie of http://www.quiltville.com/, for this mystery quilt.  And thanks also to Vic of http://victoria-carroll-parkhill.blogspot.com/ for her kind donations of black and whites when I ran out of my own.  Who knew that "running out" could even be possible?

One photo looks more blue, the other, more pink.  To me, it appears DONE!

My version looks a lot like other versions.  While I want to see the diagonals more clearly, for now, without any quilting, I see circular images with my bleary eyes.  One of the inside borders is sewn from the wrong side/direction - but I'll leave it as is, to add character - it's not easy to see in these photos.  And there is one pink block, safety pinned for identification, that is tilted the wrong direction, to be fixed.

Has there been any official count of how many of this quilt has been made?

Next quandry, how to quilt this baby.  I quilt on my own DSM, a Janome 6500.  And I probably won't get to sandwiching it (in the garage) until warmer weather.

  1. Elaine, it is breathtakingly beautiful! Call it that. And your eyes are NOT just bleary, there actually IS a secondary pattern that is formed by all those tiny white triangles that "reads" as circular. Thanks so much for mentioning my blog here and you are so very welcome! Hugs!

  8. Looks terrific! I love that you used pink and blue squares in the center of the stars.

I'll be quilting my own on a domestic machine as well...but it'll be a while before I get that far.

  9. Isn't "done" a wonderful word?! :-) Seriously, it is beautiful! The colors are great. The movement is fascinating; just keeps the eye moving. It really does remind me of moving water; maybe not stormy water, surely "busy" water. I love the border on this one. I see you added an outer black border. I think that really sets off both border and the whole quilt. I plan to do that, too; seeing yours confirms my intention. I set mine aside to finish up the Civil War BOW, but I have my OB borders ready to attach, so it won't be long now.

    Good job, Elaine!

  10. Giving you a big Whoop! Whoop! Elaine!

Great job on getting that baby to the finish line. I don't know how many were made (or started) overall but on Bonnie's Linky there were 110 listed in January and 64 in February (although some may have posted to both per Bonnie's request).

This one really caught everyone's fancy!

  15. It is a great feeling to get to this stage for sure. I like your "pink" one the best. heehee As far as naming it goes....I think 'Blueberry Blush' would fit very nicely. And I also like your wide dark border. Very NICE!!

  16. No surprise that it is beautiful...when I saw it complete, this is not your usual and I am thrilled. You are right, OB does not work for a name-Eternal Deliberation works well....

  18. I think it looks great! And for some reason the circular illusion is more visible in yours. I hope it is visible in mine when it is done!

For a name, how about "Nearly 4000"!

    Love your blog...
