NQR -- Vacker Vinter Bat -- Other Side of our Studio

"Beautiful Winter Boat" - That title is Swedish (no umlaut on my keyboard over the "a").  The other name for the boat is "Luuckintuse" ... no correct spelling known.

According to my Swedish Father, Luuckintuse was a creature who lived under bridges and came out to "get" bad children.  Over the years it became a threat word for anyone in the family, adults too, who misbehaved, lost their temper, swore.   We think a Luuckintuse was something like a "Troll" - never sure.  They would come out from under bridges, grab bad children, and only let them loose if church bells rang.  (I bet I have that description messed up!)

This is a current, finished project of DH.  I made the sail, which developed some crookedness after I broke one of the lines a few minutes ago, while cleaning off the table, so we could take photos!

What would we do without our hobbies?

  1. What an impressive piece of art work. And quite a departure from your husband's traditional work. Did he have to do a lot of research for this particular ship?

  3. Chantal - if you read this ... I just received your kind comment, but my InBox said it was from blogger Elsie Montgomery who I occasionally hear from. Must be some kind of glitch in the system. I occasionally hear from other bloggers, with the correct name within the message but notification says it's from Elsie Montgomery. I have no idea where to go for help. Anyone else have such a glitch?

  4. Thank you for the Luckintuse lore, what fun!

When you visited my blog once, it gave out the wrong blog address as your listing of your name in blue hyper text. I was very confused.

  5. Oh, if you know me, I am not always pushing myself into the conversations of others (just now and then)... Yikes, that is a crazy glitch. Have you reported it to blogger? They do have a spot for that so it might be helpful (and could polish up my now tarnished reputation)My posts should say from LC, but Google does odd things with accounts, so who knows.

You DH is truly a craftsman! What a lovely treasure!

And thanks to you for the recent email and for caring. My hubby is on the mend, but it has been a very rough January!

  7. Thanks for sharing your hubby's amazing boat (ship?). The folk lore that goes with it sounds much like elements from, um, is it Three Billy Goats Gruff? Where was that bridge troll? Some wonderful fairy tale/folk tale. Hubby's work is amazing. Your sail is wonderful too.

  8. Your DH does amazing work! As tp the glitch, I recently received a comment from someone I had never heard of before, but her comment said she had just received a comment from me. I thought it was strange, but didn't have any idea how it happened.

  9. Your husband's boats are always so wonderful! Ok, as always I see a quilt to go with it -- like one of those Nordic snowflake style quilts that were so popular this past holiday season or a Storm At Sea quilt. Hoping you two get to do another joint show in the future!
