Hourglass -- watch which ruler

Dear Elaine Adair:

Please remember that when you first wake in the morning, you are full of enthusiasm, but your brain is not yet in gear.  If you had just waited 20 minutes or so, you would not have wasted so much fabric cutting all those side-setting triangles too small by choosing the wrong ruler -- the much -loved Companion Angle -- when you should have used the much-loved Easy Diagonal Set Ruler. But you also deserve a pat on the back because seeing all those miscuts gave you an idea for the border.

I am sure others can use either ruler with better-functioning brain cells, but in this case, you did not.

Here, the side setting triangles are now correct.  Now, on to the border.  I LIKE it!  I felt that using fabrics of similar value, for this setting, worked well, even with a few "clunkers" for interest and education.

Oh, your letter to yourself is just precious! Especially love the part where you pat yourself on the back about the mis-cuts giving you an idea for the border! Looking forward to seeing what you have come up with.

Enjoy your Sunday!
Hugs and stitches!

That first picture is such a hoot! That is about how I feel first thing in the morning!
Don't you hate that feeling when you first discover your mistake?
The quilt looks really good. Does it take a lot of work on the layout to make sure the colors end up where they need to be to continue the design?

I like it too... and woke up this morning just like that, but without anything creative happening. Sigh!

We have all done that and we all wonder why didn't my brain figure it out sooner?

I just noticed that Fons and Porter has a magazine called "Scrappy Quilts" and there is MY (not really) quilt, only done in pure scraps. Fun!!!

I'm so not a morning person and that cute kid looks the way I feel some mornings. And, I feel your pain...I just sewed multiple blocks into rows the wrong way. Did you hear some ripping sounds from way south of you?

Love the little guy's picture. Yes, I feel that way most mornings! I like your quilt, too!
