Old Family Photos

My younger brother (not yet born in this photo) asked me to send him some old family photos for Mom, who has little memory of current events, but occasionally remembers old events. I sent this one and of course, got a major case of the boo-hoos. Seldom can I gather strength to look through the photos.

I am that round faced kid sitting in Mom's lap, in the lower right wearing that funny hat. And I still remember that hat! (Probably had to wear it until I was a teenager! LOL) Mom and Dad belonged to a Rabbit Club in Chicago. My Dad is in the upper left. And that's my Uncle Bert and Aunt Kate, the little dark haired Italian woman, and their 3 girls (my cousins), my sister Kris (hidden), and brother Dave. The rabbits are not relatives.

Dear Aunt Kate, the little dark haired woman, is now 105, and we hear she rides the bus to go gambling.

I can hardly look through the old photo albums because I start thinking of everyone that is now gone and I, too, get the blues. My mom probably has the best approach. She remembers so much about the past, and when I get her going she can tell some great stories, but she doesn't dwell overmuch on her memories and spends her days thinking what she can accomplish in the here and now. She's 86 and going strong. Please, Lord, let me do as well.

My mom had so many pictures that she never organized. My sister has them now and we need to scan them. Are you from Chicago? I was born there and we moved to the suburbs when I was five.

What a beautiful photo! I've been scanning some old family photos and either cleaning them up or cleaning them up and adding color. It's been so much fun!

I too have problems with the old photos. But your aunt going gambling at 105, what an inspiration!

My mother passed away last year, but had she been fortunate enough to have more years, she would have been on her way to 'the boat', that's what she and her sisters called the casino in Osceola, Iowa. I love your picture, I just added an old picture (only vintage about 20 years ago) as my wallpaper. I feel happy and nostalgic each time I turn on my computer.

What a great picture and what great memories of your family. My mother is the collector of photos and she slowly and steadily is organizing her photos- She has been interested in genealogy for a long time and has collected photos of long lost relatives- it is a puzzle that keeps growing exponently..LOL. As for your 105 year old auntie- we can only wish that we were all so lucky to be so healthy and independent.
Regards,
Anna

I love old pictures. It always seems like people looked alike. Like my family could be your family, etc. Sweeter days for sure.
