I am a quilter - a retired widow living in the Nebraska Panhandle. I am surrounded by beautiful semi-arid ranch country, and treeless hills and fields under incredibly wide blue skies, located far from the upheaval found often in large towns or cities. I am blessed to have delicious time to quilt and to appreciate my peaceful moments in an unpeaceful world.

Tip of the Day
Do you have a bunch of left over, unused, pieces of batting stashed somewhere in your home? Get your tape measure, pen, a few pins, some scrap paper and take 5 minutes to label them all as to size -- It DOES save time and you begin to believe you are actually organized! (This is fairly elementary but you never know what tip the next person hasn't thought of! -- It took me a few years to buy into this suggestion.)

umm sounds good but can I get that organised.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea..at a glance you will know if you have a quilt batt the right size or need to go buy more.
ReplyDeleteWe can all use more organization. thank you for the tip.

What do you do with all the little bits and pieces that are really too small for much of anything? I need to make a thousand chickens and stuff them all I guess.
ReplyDeleteO yes. I do this. I have actually found a couple of pieces that were large enough for a baby quilt.
ReplyDeleteI started doing this a while ago and it has made all the difference!
ReplyDeleteI had been thinking to use my bits to make a quilt as you go, which I have not done yet!
ReplyDeleteSuch an easy solution - I just grab and start measuring every time I need an odd piece!! It would make more sense to measure it once when I put it away and then I will know what I have.......
ReplyDeletethanks!!!
Having taken down and measured some 'oddments' of batting several times recently, I'm going to follow your suggestion. Why didn't I think of this myself - d'oh!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder .... I used to do this, but stopped some time ago. It really does make your life easier to do this. Love your shirt quilt. I have to do something with all the shirts that I've collected.
