Final grooming from the 'disinterested DH', before taking the photo.
Voila !!! ... If anyone sees an error in my layout, don't tell me! LOL This is the largest (and heaviest) quilt I've made -- 86 x 86 inches. I hand sewed the entire binding today, starting at 5:00 am, for 2 hours, then off to work, home again, sewed another 2 hours, took a nap, then sewed another 2 hours until finished. I LOVE this setting. I'm pleased with the dark shadow-y border, and how the cornerstones subtly weave around the quilt, like an old timey rail fence.
I think DH likes it -- I think he deliberately poked his head over the top in order to be included in the photo! 8-)))
Now, what's next on the sewing table? I am full of energy, having THAT LC done - and in time for the quilt show in several weeks.
I am a quilter - a retired widow living in the Nebraska Panhandle. I am surrounded by beautiful semi-arid ranch country, and treeless hills and fields under incredibly wide blue skies, located far from the upheaval found often in large towns or cities. I am blessed to have delicious time to quilt and to appreciate my peaceful moments in an unpeaceful world.
I see a block that's... just kidding! ;)
ReplyDeleteLooking great. I have a queen size quilt that's only half quilted at this point. It's definitely one of those "one bite at a time!" projects.
That quilt *does* look wonderful! I am currently working on a rail fence variation that will be 120x120". The center will be about 96x96 with a series of borders. I plan to meander quilt the rail fence portions a quarter at a time like in quilt as you go, then put the quarters together. Then a border will be put on and quilted, then another border on and quilted, etc. That way when the borders go on, there won't be a whole lot of quilt under the harp.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful. Nice layout. Binding just takes too long doesn't it, but it's all worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Wonderfully done! It will be wonderful on your bed! It will be wonderful in a show!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful. Nice Job!
ReplyDeleteOh my Elaine it turned out so beautiful!

ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!! I can see why your dh wanted to be in the photo with it. Will this go on your bed after it wins at the quilt show??? You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! That binding took a loooong time, but I love sitting with the finished quilt while I sew the binding. Not at all surprised that DH likes this one.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt! How big were the logs. I really like your setting.Congratulations on the finish!
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely gorgeous! I love the way you've done the border.
ReplyDeleteTruly a masterpiece, Elaine! Excellent work and perserverence paid off, in a big (lol) way. DH should be proud to be holding that quilt, I say! Congrats on your major accomplishment of this beauty.
ReplyDeleteWow..that will surely get attention at the show..congratulations..for getting it completed in a timely..manner. Your efforts are well rewarded..so beautiful...an error is necessary to make it a work of art... it is not perfect.DEB};o

Oh Elaine, this is simply the ULTIMATE. I have to agree, this setting is out of this world spectacular. And I also have to agree, I'm really pleased with the border work. You've created a truly unique, stunning quilt and I'm celebrating right along side you!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh, it's gorgeous! If there's an error in there, I cannot see it - it's simply stunning. What a great border; you have a wonderful eye.
ReplyDeleteIt's just wonderful! I love that setting.
ReplyDeleteI never get tired of seeing log cabin quilts. There are so many arrangements & styles that can be made. They do tend to be heavier quilts but worth the work.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Did you hear me? It is BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteI have made a couple LC quilts. I want to do all the layouts possible. But your border makes it so unique. I can see a blue ribbon on it already!
XOXOXO Subee
Beautiful, Elaine. I really like that setting too. And I know what you mean about having it ready for the quilt show. I have three quilts that have to be quilted, five to bind, for a show. And pictures & reg. are supposed to be sent in before July 1. Yikes, what am I doing on the computer??!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt - I love the layout and especially the borders. (Husbands may act disinterested in quilting, but they are secretly proud of their talented spouses.)
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful - what a great setting.
ReplyDeleteI love the setting you used for your log cabin. It's a beauty!
ReplyDeleteElaine, you did a terrific job of this one! Congratulations on being finished.
ReplyDeleteWow, this one is a beauty! And best of all, you're not doing binding the night before you have to turn the quilt in for the show! Seriously, you should be proud of yourself for this one! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is beautiful. I love the layout you used - I haven't seen that before.
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteOooh, Wow, GORGEOUS!! If your quilt show is judged, bet you'll win a ribbon!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks to your DH for helping to give us a good look at it.
Wow!! That is truly FABULOUS!
