I am a quilter - a retired widow living in the Nebraska Panhandle. I am surrounded by beautiful semi-arid ranch country, and treeless hills and fields under incredibly wide blue skies, located far from the upheaval found often in large towns or cities. I am blessed to have delicious time to quilt and to appreciate my peaceful moments in an unpeaceful world.

Some of these things are not like the others
I am unfocused, not concentrating due to ... life.
Those new QSTs are not what I expected. So, I remade them, all 12 of these QSTs (that I even wrote a tutorial for!), and guess what? -- I made all 12 of again, exactly WRONG, a second time!
But I'm nearing completion on this Quilt of Valor top, despite stupid mistakes. Thanks, Marcie for the inspiration!
The last photo (below) is the side setting triangle - those are large pieces! For audition purposes, I added one quick corner to the inside corner of the triangle to blend with that quarter square. I like it. It's more contrasting than I expected - wish I had toned it down somewhat. Quilting will help, I'm sure.
I've been up and wide awake, for one week, since 4:30 am. Almost noon time now -- is it nap time yet?

I certainly love this one! I have my "Marcie" quilt all cut out, just need a little time. I have a plan! Because I am unfocused like you are right now...hope you have a super day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt this is going to be! Nice Job.
ReplyDeleteI think that quick corner on the setting triangle was a great addition! Bummer about making not one but TWO sets wrong, but at least that's behind you now.
ReplyDeleteLove it. Dont think it needs toning down at all!!
ReplyDeleteRemaking things wrong twice~?~?~ Now you sound like me! I'm glad you stuck with it because this is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI had to smile. I have made QSTs wrong more than I want to admit. And since I usually assembly line piece, I will be deep in the stack before I wake up and go "Wha...?"
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is lovely and I don't think it's too high contrast. I'm sure it will be loved by its recipient.
Love your quilt and whoever gets it will appreciate all the work you did on it - sorry about oops!
ReplyDeleteNice idea putting the corner in the side triangles!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors and fabrics in this block. It really is going to make a nice quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love the way this quilt is tuning out! Very striking! Doing it on point gives it whole new look!
ReplyDeleteOh, I just noticed what you did wrong with the blocks. Whoops! Now you need to make a quilt with white star points!
ReplyDeleteReally--think--QOV--mostly men. Men wouldn't KNOW what a toned down quilt was, they NEED the contrast! A "blended" quilt? Does that have something to do with a blender? (Imagine a very confused man here)
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate (and I guess we all can) to making a block and then making it again - twice the wrong way. I like how you opened this posting, too. I mean, I can relate. And finally, I actually really super duper LOVE this quilt. I guess I'm a high contrast girl? Hmmm... :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to know we all do odd things every so often. I actually like the contrast on this quilt and I really like how you did the side blocks.
ReplyDeleteMaybe those mistake QSTs will inspire something really interesting. REassuring to hear I'm not the only one who makes mistakes like that. Agree that the added triangle is a great idea. Hope you get more sleep soon!
ReplyDeleteWow--great dimension and depth here!
ReplyDeleteI love the contrast Elaine it's perfect for a QOV. And oh, I have done what you did & remade the blocks with EXACTLY the same mistake, duh, Blond!
ReplyDeleteI liked your story about protecting your home and baby. A modern day NCIS.
