String Settings

I am playing with my string blocks. There might be too much white so I added the quick corners in purple and turquoise. It gives the block a whole new look, doesn't it? At this point, I'm not sure which one to use -- maybe I should keep playing! I have a LOT left over. Actually, I've made both of these quilts before - can't get enough of those strings!

I really like the second one, kinda 'spool' like, but it would be MUCH better if those strings went cross-wise. Maybe someone out there in blogland will make one -- if so, I hope she sends me a photo.

I like the left one a bit better but you never really know how they will look until you have a bunch of them together. Then you see the secondary patterns. Love the colors.

My vote is with Joyce's choice. When there are more blocks put together I believe that white diamond will become an accent rather than the focus.

Elaine, I like both blocks. I think the left one is elegant. I just finished a string top and and wish the white areas were not so large. Now I am thinking, why didn't I think to add the triangles!! That is a good idea. A good save for blocks with too much background. Good for you!

I like both. The one on the left is a bit more structured, but the one on the right just seems so whimsical. I think it depends on what the eventual use is.

I did see the moon on the 19th, my husband called me outside specifically to see it. It was magnificent wasn't it?

Another vote for the lefty! I'm way anal tho, so a structured block rules, lol.

Hi Elaine, I too, like the left version..LOL, not much help are we??
Wanted to say how clever I think it is to piece across the phone book pages that way, and then have the roll! Now why didn't I think of that? So many possibilities and so easy to store til needed. Thanks for an inpiration! Hugs, Finn

I like the left one too. The one on the right looks like a butterfly tho.

These string-blocks are very addictive 'cause I have a bunch left over from my last project too.

Sorry like the one on the right. The one on the left is ordinary. Why not just make one quilt of each!?

Love how these blocks have turned out - the extra corner pieces really make them different. I think you need to play with the blocks on a design wall and see how multiples will look. Or maybe just make both!! Have fun :)

What nifty string blocks! I am so in love with strings. When I finish the quilt I'm doing I think I need to make bigger blocks that I can split in half like these. I'm going to save your picture of inspiration - I hope that's OK.

I think both blocks would make a great quilt. Since you have lots of strings, why not keep stitching both kinds?

Nifty little corner trick on the left one. Both blocks are great!

I keep coming back to your post. My first reaction was to say I favored the block on the left.... but I think multiples of the block on the right could create some interesting secondary patterns too. LOL.... sorry, I'm not much help, am I? Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I like both, but am drawn to the one of the left. Why not make both since you seem to be addicted to making strings! :o)
