I am a quilter - a retired widow living in the Nebraska Panhandle. I am surrounded by beautiful semi-arid ranch country, and treeless hills and fields under incredibly wide blue skies, located far from the upheaval found often in large towns or cities. I am blessed to have delicious time to quilt and to appreciate my peaceful moments in an unpeaceful world.

Have I seen that before?
Hey, that looks like something I’ve seen before! Yep, this cute little pink string quilt (yet unquilted) is made from leftovers from this larger version (below) that I posted last year. The blocks were all similar in color, and all the same size HSTs, but look how different they appear.
I had 57 blocks left over from the original project, and used 48 for the second. This is one of my Telephone Book Quilts, named because I pieced them on phone book pages – it tears off really well, and the paper is always FREE. And, ta tahhhh ..., with the leftovers from the second quilt, I actually threw out the leftover 8, and kept one for the label. And I’m promising myself I will NOT retrieve them from the trash.

Elaine, I love phone book pages for string quilts. Mary's Heartstrings group wants them on muslin if you send them off which will be something different for me.
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts are really neat! Are you getting more snow?
It's amazing how different they look. I love them both. But you THREW OUT some blocks??? Wow. What courage. I'd have to have them around fro at least ten years! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI love both those quilts! I am usually not much of a string quilt fan, but the use of plain half triangles and the settings you have used really make these wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGreat job using left-over blocks! Both of the quilts are great - and a pretty way to use some scraps!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Evelyn
Have you kept your promise? Go on, I dare you - get them out, sew them on the back with the label so they won't be lonely
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt. Great choice of borders too :)
ReplyDeleteThey are both lovely, Elaine!! And I CANNOT believe that you threw out 8 BLOCKS...you better go get them right now, girl!! LOL (I couldn't throw them out even if I WANTED TO LOL)
ReplyDeleteA scrappy quilt made from the leftover scraps of a scrappy quilt - love it! I too use phone book pages for stitching. I can't remember where I picked up that suggestion - maybe from you. Anyway they sure work well.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you which quilt I like better - both are stunning!

Threw out blocks???? Agggh. I'd gladly take them, or even better, someone who makes charity quilts would love to have them. Never throw away blocks! It's a lot of fun to see how different these two quilt tops turned out from the same start. Love that pink border - really makes the blocks pop.
ReplyDeleteWow your right - they look so different! Oh thanks for showing both! This is so cool to compare!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful!!
