I am a quilter - a retired widow living in the Nebraska Panhandle. I am surrounded by beautiful semi-arid ranch country, and treeless hills and fields under incredibly wide blue skies, located far from the upheaval found often in large towns or cities. I am blessed to have delicious time to quilt and to appreciate my peaceful moments in an unpeaceful world.

Bricks and Steppingstones
I wish I hadn't copied Bonnie Hunter's idea so completely, but this is how it turned out -- The pattern is easy, fast and quite nice looking, a good stash buster, and is destined for a brother-in-law, if I can stand to part with it! 8-)) Only the top 2 rows are sewn in this photo. My border choice is at the upper left, a dark blue/black with brown splotches. The inner border is still undecided.
The dark black squares could be any dark - wouldn't dark green with woodsy fabrics be nice, or dark blue with gardeny fabric, or purple with ... you get the picture.
There are several pieces of fabric in this quilt from several of YOU! I LOVE how the blue bricks seem to glow next to the black.
Thanks Bonnie Hunter of www.quiltville.com.

Your quilt is lovely. I made of those also and gave it to my grandson this past Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to make one in red, white and blue for a QOV - probably scrappy blues with red and white 9-patches. I also made one a few years ago like Bonnie's - black and white 9-patches, with a totally scrappy look to the "bricks". Such a simple pattern, but such a stunning quilt. Yours looks very nice!
ReplyDeletethis quilt has been on my to do list for a couple of years - I love yours, Elaine.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I think I might have to try one someday too!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great! Your bil will love it!
ReplyDeleteLove it!! MUst go over to Bonnie's and have a look!! Take care!

Don't knock a good thing. Your idea or hers, it is a good looking quilt.
ReplyDeleteSince this is a "Bonnie" quilt the inner border should probably be a cheddar gold.
ReplyDeleteI have one of these in progress too. My bricks are all bright colored hand-dyes that I made a few years back, with the black/white 4-patches. My inner border will be a mix of w-on-w's and the outer border will probably be a black/bright print that I have on hand. Can't wait to see yours finished.
I have admired this quilt on Bonnie's site and it looks great! The black and white 4-patch really sets it off!
ReplyDeleteI really LIKE this pattern and used it last year in my 'ugly fabric challenge' at the LQS. It was pinks and greens with the black & white 4 patches. It lives with my sister now and I'm working on THIS year's ugly fabric challenge! LOL Yours turned out way cute and I know it'll be hard to part with!
ReplyDeletevery, very nice
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite patterns. Your quilt is fabulous!
ReplyDeletethat pattern is so good. I love to make it, and then I look thru the blocks to find bits and pieces of fabric from friends. Yours looks great, and I like the ideas for different fabrics you have. Green, green is always a good choice.
ReplyDeleteGreat job.Your BIL will love it I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteLooking great, Elaine!
ReplyDeleteI like this pattern too, and have set aside some leftover black and white strips from a previous project. I was thinking of doing yellows and reds for mine...
What marvelous colors! Great job.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteLove it - finally back to reading blogs. Still laying on the couch with my leg up and iced. Blog reading passes time and now I am about caught up.
ReplyDeleteI like your colors too, very man-like somehow. What don't you like about it?
