Havin' Fun, Goin' Bonkers

hmmm - if there are a million possible arrangements, I could just sit back and post a new photo every few days and not say anything more. (Could that be possible for a blogger?)

This (below) isn't doing anything for me - not even if I turn my head sideways.

Sooooo many ideas, plans, directions, etc. Nellie of Nellie's Needles suggested I kinda throw them down and see what happens. Duh - what took me so long to take that good advice? I am the Queen of 'let's see what happens'! After all, if a person wants something artistic and original, she shouldn't follow a plan.

So far, I'm just arranging them according to color - not doing anything with the blocks that are lighter or darker on the outside - I'll save that for later. Things are beginning to come together! And I think I would like it to be larger. So far I have over 48 blocks.

On this last arrangement (below), I've used a few blocks that are all one color, although still divided diagonally. This is in no way DONE, I still have more ideas. Today I DID purchase some 'punch' fabric (yes, even these bright colors needed something a bit different to 'punch' it up a bit. Damage? $4.01. Not bad.

DH was willing to arrange/rearrange them, but he's finding it very distracting - he likes things planned and symmetrical - NOT what I want but I DID appreciate his arrangements.

  1. I love Margaret Miller's books. I have a few blocks made from Strips That Sizzle, but have not made enough to do much arranging. I need to make another color set. I like your color combination. Its fun to play with the blocks, isn't it? Your have inspired me to get my blocks out and make some more so that I can play, too.

  2. Hmmm...I really like the middle one and the last one. Lots of movement but not dizzying. I do have to agree about the first one though, it's kind of "blah".

  3. I like the last one. Half the fun is in the arranging so take you time and enjoy it! It's amazing that the colors in the photos are so different. Which is more like the real quilt? I am assuming the last ones.

  4. I like the middle one the best so far. It looks more "artsy" to me.

  6. You are having fun, I can tell. I usually made way more blocks than I ended up using and then they became a small wallhaning or tablerunner.

  9. The added colors did zing it up. But, a vote for the traditional. I think I like the second picture in the last post the best, the concentric arrangement. I may be traditional, or conventional, or just overly symmetry-oriented. However, the third photo in this post has real appeal. I'll keep watching -- you can help me loosen up!

  10. I like the last picture best - it looks really great! I love your colours. You inspired me to have another play with my sizzling strips. They're not such lovely colors, but have a look and see what you think.

  11. I love the last two arrangements! What a simple idea to sew strips and cut them into triangles. Just lovely.
