I am a quilter - a retired widow living in the Nebraska Panhandle. I am surrounded by beautiful semi-arid ranch country, and treeless hills and fields under incredibly wide blue skies, located far from the upheaval found often in large towns or cities. I am blessed to have delicious time to quilt and to appreciate my peaceful moments in an unpeaceful world.

Batik Paper-Pieced Luggage Tags
A friend gave me these batik scraps and I've savored them, but I don't normally use batiks. Tonight they turned into these 2 little luggage tags as a Thank You gift. Aren't they cute? The auto thread cutter is greatly appreciated while working on this project
These tags are just for identification on the luggage carousel - there is no place for name/address. After a ribbon, batting, and a backing, VOILA !! (See the 2 finished blue ones?) Kinda hard to do any hand quilting on these little items. A stitch or two through the center holds the layers together nicely.
I prefer to send this kind of gift instead of a card.

Now that's a thoughtful present and so very good looking.
ReplyDeleteThese are so clever! What a great idea and gift. Pretty, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea!
ReplyDeleteYour little blocks are so perfect and I so love the idea of them as luggage tags. Certainly one of a kind...
ReplyDeleteVery nice and useful too. Also an easy way to practise paper piecing.
ReplyDeleteTerrific idea! And perfect project for practicing paper piecing. I think I'll borrow your idea to try that flamingo pattern I've wanted to make. They'll be cute on my luggage or even just hanging on a doorknob.
ReplyDeleteOh my, my verification word is ridiculous: amosemip. At least it's easy to read and not all wonky
They're beautiful little blocks! Couldn't miss your luggage with one of those.
ReplyDeleteHow come some people write the verification word in their comments?
These are Wonderful! I love this idea!
ReplyDeleteFancy luggage tags! I always tie red bandanas on my handles - there are just sooo many bags that look very similar. Once I even had someone take my bag by mistake and I had to go on vacation with no luggage - but as Dad said, when I called frantic from the airport - don't they have stores where you are going? Still... always a good idea to try to get your bag to stand out.
ReplyDeleteCheers! Evelyn
They are really cute! I need to make some, I have a very mundane suitcase, easily mistaken for a thousand other suitcases. And what a great gift idea!
ReplyDeleteI love your luggage tags - they're beautiful!! and such a good idea - I just got back from a trip and there are a lot of people with black luggage.
ReplyDeleteThose little blocks are so cute..I did enjoy the paper piecing I did, looking forward to do so again. A friend suggested to make such tags and give to friends with your name and address on the back. Similiar to a business card.
ReplyDeleteSew Peacefully DEB}:o
