This is another method for making feathers - by Sally Terry. She makes her feathers with a "hook". I tried it - this is my first try and it works just fine. I think you can see it well on this practice sample.
My quilting thread is a limey, lustrous green and it shows really well on this dark fabric.
Many of you know I do my quilting on a DSM. And some of you may also be noticing but politely not mentioning that I'm doing a lot more practing than actually DOING! ARgghhhh - I KNOW it! 8-( The thing that holds me up more than anything is that danged sandwiching!
I am a quilter - a retired widow living in the Nebraska Panhandle. I am surrounded by beautiful semi-arid ranch country, and treeless hills and fields under incredibly wide blue skies, located far from the upheaval found often in large towns or cities. I am blessed to have delicious time to quilt and to appreciate my peaceful moments in an unpeaceful world.
Looks great to me! The practicing is working, at least!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen feathers done that way before. It is very interesting and yours look great.

Your samples certainly look great. I know what you mean about the quilt sandwich. So much time taken for basting for me, but that is a necessary evil. Have you ever used the spray adhesive to make the sandwich? Glad you are feeling better. Me too, today.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a lovely feather. It's so full and lush. I'm glad you're feelin better. Nasty ol' bugs!
ReplyDeleteVery C-O-O-L!!
ReplyDeleteHow is hubby faring with the new weight-loss program?

Your feather looks so good! One of the things I like best about my quilt frame is not having to pin the sandwich. It has saved my knees from destruction!
ReplyDeleteI like that feather! You say it is easy to do? I'll have to give it a go, I have a practice piece already sandwiched.
ReplyDeleteThat feather looks super. I'm going to have a look for that book.
ReplyDeleteWow, very nice feather. The sandwiching was the main reason I now have an HQ-16. No more pin-basting (except small ones that I'll do on my DM). The book is on my wish list. Thanks for posting this!
ReplyDeleteDo you have you DSM in a frame or are you sewing from a cabinet? Totally love those feathers. I want to do feathers in my Batik Virginia Bound.

I bought this book a couple of weeks ago and love it. The feathers are so easy and look beautiful. It's now one of my favorite books.
ReplyDeleteYour quilting looks wonderful!
This looks so interesting! Thanks for the tip on the book. I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteThe feather looks great! Hey at least you are practicing! I just keep SAYING I want to do DSM machine quilting but I don't think I've ever shown any practice item which means I haven't really practiced much...
ReplyDeleteooo - I like the looks of what you did and this book! I may have to check this out!
ReplyDeleteI think you could stop practising now Elaine! That's a great looking feather.
ReplyDeleteCOOL!!! Not seen this type of feather before :)
