Am I the only one ???

http://www.yahoo.com/ -- Boogie Down the Aisle.

Ok, I'm getting old and set in my ways, but am I the only one slightly uncomfortable watching this dancing and cavorting down the aisle for a wedding when it was held in a church? It was happy dancing, not lewd, or sleezy but ... I would feel different if it was in another location but in the church?

I would welcome opinions - any.

  1. Well Elaine, Part of me wants to say we're getting old. My daughter is getting married tomorrow. We did the rehearsal tonight, and maybe dancing down the aisle would lighten it up and make it fun. One of my daughters had a small intimate wedding with lots of laughter. It was the nicest wedding that I ever went to. I have the feeling that this one is going to be stuffy and traditional. I would be up for a little dancing I guess.

  2. I thought it was very MOVIE like and could go either way. My 19 year old daughter pretty much hates it. How is that for you?? She says no way no how at her wedding!!

  3. Dancing down the aisle? Not so much! I guess I think the occasion should call for more respect. JMHO :)

  4. I felt like it was way too much of a 'performance' and did not really like it. Of course, this is from a person who had an outdoor, mountain wedding and the music was the wind soughing through the pines. Divine.

  5. I thought of it as a celebration but was a bit uncomfortable with it being done in church. But doesn't the Bible say to make a joyful noise??

  6. I can see both sides; but I do agree about was it appropriate in a church. But then I feel uncomfortable with clapping in a church also.

  7. I just think they're going to pull out that wedding video in 25 years and be EMBARRASSED! (if they're married in 25 years - fun is well and is good but I somehow don't think they have a grasp on the solemnity and enormity of what they're embarking on.) I belong to a liturgical denomination (Episcopal) and think all that silliness is misplaced in church. Making a joyful noise doesn't require you to make an idiot of yourself. Save the dancing for the reception. As you might have guessed, I hated it.

  8. I just saw joyous exuberance. Different churches have different standards of behavior, and evidently this was okay at their church. BTW, I still teared up when I saw the bride appear.

  9. Isn't the point of being married in a church that you are making a solemn vow before God? I had a hard time finding an awareness of coming into God's presence in this approach. Perhaps the wedding reception would have been a more appropriate place to do this joyful boogie.

  10. Elaine, I believe in a happy, joyous God, not a stern disciplinarian. A wedding is a celebration, and this dancing was definitely a celebration of love!

  11. I tend to think “the church” is the people and the mindset, not the building. I wonder if this would have bothered people less if it were an outdoor wedding and, if so, where is the higher power at an outdoor wedding? With all that said, I thought it was a huge made-for-youtube production and they fulfilled their desire in that respect. I do not think it means they are any less married/committed to each other, or that their choice to be married or their vows are any less solemn.

  12. We look on the outward appearance and God looks on the heart... I've no comments because what do I know about their hearts! Maybe God was laughing and singing too, which would be the ideal!

If this is the way it was, may their joy continue!!

  13. I loved it and had tears in my eyes by the end. I thought it was a really special way for a dancer to celebrate the start of her life with someone who so obviously gets her. The Farmers Wife has it on her blog and was asking people how they felt. I think if you start off your life dancing and laughing...surrounded by friends and family...that's probably where you will end up. And yep, I go to church hahahahahahaha
    hugs!!

  14. God created us to dance and to be joyful as well as to bow in holy awe in His presence.
    I doubt He would mind.
He said not to worry about the outside of the cup...it is what is inside which matters. Just fresh in my mind as he was ticking off the stuffy old non dancing scribes and Pharisees as I was reading in the Gospel of Matthew.
But we do have our own expectations and as long as they were not throwing garters I cannot feel it is too much of a worry.
Rejoice in the Lord always said Paul to the Churches.
sorry...tapped my pet theological corn. LOL.
How do people feel when they worship God? I hope joy comes in there somewhere and how do you feel as you are finally married....Joyful

  15. To me, it seemed too contrived. Sort of "Let's do something we can put on a YouTube video." It didn't seem like a celebration - it was staged. Just my opinion.

  16. it was their wedding and they did it their way. i think too many worry about the perception of others, about superficial appearances, and regret not doing what they want for sake of appearances. weddings can be very stressful and leave many feelings hurt. watching the video EVERYONE involved appeared happy. and remember, it is not appropriate as Christians for us to judge their behavior.

  17. Elaine, on the heels of your above post, I heard today about a friend's sister who is being married IN the surf. Yes. I truly hope that these whimsical ceremonies do not reflect our values and perceptions of marriage... which should be a sacred and serious exchange of vows IMHO. Happiness and fun are fleeting at best. And yes, I'm getting old, but I have always held this viewpoint re weddings. Celebrating the 50th this Dec. --Something must have worked!
    Blessings.

  18. As chair of the worship and music committee of my church (yeah, I'm the Church Lady), I would be receptive to this if the couple were people who attended our church. For them, the church building is their home, and this kind of exuberance might be appropriate.
But, for the many who chose our sanctuary "because it is a pretty place", I'd be less likely to go for it.

  19. I thought it was adorable and fun, but I'm older and a bit old-fashioned so I was a little uncomfortable about it being in a church. However, I do know that a lot of churches don't have a problem with this...the minister didn't seem the least bit upset, so... I remember a close friend getting married and after their vows were said the wedding party stood up with Olympics type cards rating the vows. We watched the video recently (one of their kids is engaged) and it was still funny.

  20. I didn't care for it either. As another commenter said, it seemed awfully contrived. Perhaps if it were in a setting other than a church, it would be more appropriate.

  21. After I watched it again and realized..........I am slow...that it was on the way in......I was far less impressed.
I reacted to the description before I realised the UTube was there.
    slow and thick maybe!!
