Homely Quilt, a re-built Log Cabin

Yeahhh - it's done! It turned out so much better than it looked when only a quilt top! Quilting DOES make the quilt. This starts out as a traditionial Log Cabin, but with some manipulation, I call it a ReBuilt Log Cabin. Look at that unexpected zig-zag effect. On the lower photo, you'll see the bunch of nearly ugly fabrics that were used. The sandwiching was done last Sunday, and it was finished Friday night. The border, (Jewel Box, or Buckeye Beauty blocks) works well as a border, but I'm not sure it 'goes' with this quilt. However, the entire project is quirky enough to be OK.

Look at some of my nearly-uglies used.

  2. It's absolutely beautiful! You are right. The quilting can make or break a pieced top. Some of mine have been broken by the quilting...

  6. I like this too, Elaine. You do a great job, and using the "uglies" the way you did makes them look great!

  9. The pattern you created is so interesting, especially done in scrappy style. So much to look at. It really holds the eye. I certainly don't find any uglies in there! Just beautiful. I just love all the motifs you use in your quilting. I always get great ideas from you.

  10. This is a winner. It has a lot of movement. As for uglies, I think it's all in the way they blend together to make beauty.

  12. wowza! The "rebuilt log cabin" with the buckeye beauty border is not just OK - it's marvelous through and through!

Is there a pattern for this design? This is really cool and I'd love to try it out with my scraps.
