Crumb Blocks

These are 4 big blocks/panels, each approx 10 x 12 in.  Pieces were all pulled quickly from my "trash", and sewed together with little plan nor thought.  I DID straighten out edges as needed, and pressed as I went.   Most pieces are from a recent quilt, still in process.  Some pieces were left larger than others, part of my plan.  Hopefully I'll get this project made up soon.

These crumb blocks took 1 hr. and 20 minutes.  Great fun, do give it a try.  The floor is a mess.

  1. I am doing this too. My red scrap bin has yielded three quilts with reds, one big one with pinks, and is still one third full. It is a little bin 12 x 12 x 15! And now all the pinks are in piles, cool pinks in one area and warm orange-pinks in the other. Little pieces up to longer strips. The plan is log cabin roughly, making squares of 5-6 inches then narrow sashing. I believe you - this is fun. Not too much thinking. My pink quilt is ready to sandwich, a purple one is on the machine, doggy one and big brown scrappy waiting to be sandwiched. I'm starting to feel like a personal assistant would be welcome! Thanks dear Elaine for being an encouragement!

  3. I have made two crumb quilts. Used up a ton, but now probably have 3 times that many crumbs waiting for use. Mine are mostly shirts as they have so many odd pieces left over after deboning a shirt (I liken it to deboning a turkey). I am eager to see what you do with these. You do such interesting pieces.

  7. Crumb piecing can be fun indeed! Your current batch of scraps is very cheerful -- I like the turquoise/red check on the right.

  8. Looks like a lot of fun putting that together, and I like how much purple is involved. :)
