Provided by Quilters!

Tuesday afternoon:  Two packets of kid fabric chunks and squares arrived today, all squished into my mailbox!  Wowser - like Christmas in January!!!!!  Thank you so much ladies - what a warm, lovely way to finish my afternoon!  One packet arrived from Utah, and another from Ontario - you know who you are!   8-)))))  I can't wait to start on the next "I Spy" quilt - I've been given many, many cute, kid-type fabrics - so many fun pieces, images we've not seen around here.  Life is good!

The previously shown "I Spy" quilt was completed and gifted - hope the parents enjoy many years of games with their little boy.

God bless you all.

Disappearing 9-Patch, (I Spy) Kids Quilt

 So far, so good.

Closer view - my arrangement left all the blocks right side up.

I have a LOT more 4.5 in. squares, sent from friends and bloggers.  Everyone wanted to help out!  This quilt is going to an RN who headed up the Cardio P.T. that I attended for almost 3 months.  She had a new baby about the time of my medical "incident" so I wasn't able to make it then.

It's very jumbled, but I am trying new things -- I like it.  I had seen a friend's Disappearing 9-Patch that was over-the-top beautiful, made with black on black background batiks, with each square in a bright, almost solid batiks - it was stunning.  So, that batik idea is for another day.  Best part of this quilt is few seams to match, and enjoying the variety of cute squares that came from numerous local and national friends.  8-)))   Thank you to all.  A second quilt is in the making for the squares that came later.    This one is about 56 inches square.

Kids Prints, I Spy

Many of these cute prints were sent to me by a blogging friend,  (thank you Joan, of www.shelbystitcher) with my promise that I'd get the fabric made up into kids quilts.  So far, so good.

I was particularly interested in the setting and sashing of this design.  The quilt made up larger than expected (like always?).  It's 60 x 70".  Good for toddler, perfect for an "I Spy".   There are a few duplicates.  My favorite block is a little dark haired girl with glasses - so cute!!!

I needed a little more width to the backing.  Those are little spools on the back.

An "I SPY" quilt for Jennie's 2nd boy

I started this "I SPY" quilt about one week ago.  The top went together in one day, while visiting with friends, and the quilting took about another day, and binding about 2-3 hours.

This is for dh's dear grandaughter, expecting her 2nd boy.  Older brother is 6, so he can "teach" the baby.  The prints are from Keepsake Quilting - "Kids Prints" and are so bright, cheerful, current, and quality fabrics, and have characters from kids books.  You might want to check them out, for your next baby quilt.  There are 50 squares for $13.99 - a bargain, given how cute they all are.  I used 48 for this and I believe they are 5 inches square.

My quilting in the center is free-form loops and double loops (balloons), a few hearts, and several scrolls.  In the border I just did 3 rows of straight lines, in different widths.  The red fabric is full of alphabet letters and doo-dads.  CUTE!

Done - I Spy

This baby is DONE and will be in the mail Monday, on it's way to Wisconsin! I quilted in the ditch along all the sashes. No puckers on the back! Yeah! This was an entertaining project, wishing I was with the child who I hope will be playing "I Spy." The back has several family photos on fabric - a technique that I wanted to try out. I'm not expecting the photos to hold up as well as the front fabric, but it was nice to learn that technique, which WAS quite easy.

I always give away my kids quilts, and sometimes I wonder if the colors hold out, given reasonable care. Comments anyone?

On to the next project.

I Spy Quilt, WIP

This is too cute -- I just had to post it, unfinished! It's not sandwiched nor quilted yet. I'm hoping when you double-click you can see some of the squares. I will probably just do quick straight line, in the ditch quilting.

This is for a 2 1/2 year old (hope she's not 3 before I get it to her!) who plays on the floor with visiting foster children, and as I understand, has decided she will be their teacher.

This is the second time I've ordered these squares from Keepsake Quilting and I have been very pleased. They are called 60, 6-inch Kids Prints. (Yes, I added a few of my own left over from my previous order.) Each one is better than the next - opening the package was like Christmas for ME - and the quality is excellent.

The backing, with all the black/white dogs and kitty motifs, is as cute as the front, and I thought was a nice combination with the polka-dot border. Absolutely NO other color would go for the cornerstones and 1 inch border except yellow. Tried red, blue, green. Brown was pretty good for the outer border. Remember when you mixed all your paints up as a kid and the rinse water for your brush turned brown? I think our eyes are trying to do the same thing with all those colors, so yes, I almost used a nice swirly brown, but finally decided on the black/white, ala Freddie Moran style.

The bear square with a bit of sashing still on it was taken out of the quilt AFTER it was ME who had the nightmare about bears. But aren't they splendid? That was the only square I did not use.
