63 Pineapple Blocks - DONE

OK, paper piecing IS messy. I let it all go to the floor, and don't worry about the mess, then vacuum each evening.

I only used what was in the strip box - and I wasn't particular with my choices - they only had to be very light, and very dark.

My machine has an auto thread cutter and then I can just start another seam - there is no fiddling with the threads, they don't get jammed, I don't have to pull out a few inches to keep it from tangling. Between my knee lift, auto thread cutter and then just starting on the next sewing, this paper-piecing goes fairly quickly. I don't know if I'd like paper piecing without these gadgets!

Here's the beginning of the last block!

Because many of my blocks were so scrappy, the larger corners did not always look so good next to one another, and I wanted some way to coordinate all the different fabrics. I used a same rust and mossy green on the corners, alternating them.

Look at the improvement! I cut those little quick corners at 1.5 inches.

Most of the rows are together and I'm letting the whole top 'cook' while I come up with a good border.

  3. I love pineapples too, but it is a helluva job to make them and paper piecing is the only way to get accuracy. Oh the alternative is "piece in the hoop" in a embroidery module- but it still take a lot of time. Congratulations for a big job well done

  6. Ooh. Looking good! Last year I had to do 4 of these pineapple blocks BY HAND and it about killed me! It was part of our quilt group's gang and the only other person who does paper piecing besides me was horrified that we weren't going to do this the easy way (paper piecing). I'm glad I'm done and I wish my blocks looked as good as yours!

  8. I am so impressed! I don't have a clue how you made these. I don't see any markings on the paper...did you measure each strip somehow? Or make your own paper templates on the copier?

I don't know if I'd have the patience for so many paper pieced blocks. I don't have that thread cutter gizmo.

  9. Love that block in the last picture. It's going to be an amazing quilt. I don't like to paper piece but love the results so I just enjoy watching others do it.

  10. Great looking blocks - heard on TV yesterday you had wind chill temps of -30 something. With the snow you have that is added insult to insult!

  11. Are they foundation pieced? I have that in a box -------> over there somewhere hiding.
I like Bonnie's method, and there's another one out there where they aren't cut "perfect"...which I'm really starting to like.

  12. Your blocks start off humble, but they sure end up top notch beautiful.
