Having a bad day -- probably a bad week!

Drat - computer virus! I'm at the library posting this.

FYI - If you get a sensible-looking window that says something like "You are being attacked" .. it's probably too late. The windows look a LOT like Official Window, or official AVG, which is what I use for virus protection. Last time, my Geek, said even the best systems get viruses, or malware or ... you can't get rid of the windows, can't do system restore, can't actually GET anywhere to fix anything.

My gosh, I feel I have lot a limb, without my computer. I cannot even do my in-house work, like Excel, or word processing, or e-mail, and I have personal business to take care of. Looks like it's back to the GeeK on Monday. Wish me luck.

Do computer viruses work with wireless communication? Oh great, I ask a question, and how can I receive your answers?

I AM finishing up my Pineapple Blossoms - the quilting that is. Hot work, with temps in the mid-90s.

Guess I should find a few books, and then go home and eat worms ... 8-(((

  1. "Even the best systems get viruses" sounds like an excuse to me. If you're motivated to avoid them, and you've got appropriate technical support, of course you can avoid them.

It may involve a trade-off, such as choosing Firefox over Internet Explorer, but you certainly can avoid any and all infections.

  2. Two programs----Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SuperAnti-Spyware will take care of the problem. Run 'em both. Shutdown, reboot into safe-mode & run 'em again.

  3. So I recognize the quote if nobody else does:
"Nobody loves me. Guess I'll go out into the garden and eat worms. Yesterday I ate two smooth ones and one wooly one." Good luck with the computer.

  4. I had the same thing happen not long ago, with a computer only 4 months old. My Geek had to do a total cleanup, cleaned up registry and cost me 100.00. but worth it, if is fixed!

  5. I recommend NOD32 for anti-virus (and/or run Microsoft's malware removal tool) as well as running Firefox for a browser (along with the No-script add-on). I certainly wouldn't be paying anyone money to fix my system. Always, always, always run the Windows updates (if you don't have them set up to run/install automatically).

  6. Elaine, amazing how dependent we have become on these machines...

I, too, got a virus through Internet Explorer that attacked my AVG. After having everything restored, by our local geek, I switched to Mozilla Firefox and haven't been disappointed...

Always look forward to your blog.

  7. I highly recommend oreos and cold milk while sitting in front of the AC unit. Then on your next trip to the library, order some fabric on-line. Chocolate and new fabric cure everything!

  8. Oh, man, I've had those cooties - took my IT guy at work a week to clean it up. Hope you're back to normal quickly!

  9. My computer got this virus last night, but I took care of it. Now I'm reading up on it. And to see your post today... well, deja vu. I have protection so I sure don't know how I got it. But what I did was boot up the computer in safe mode (press F8 when it says to press other keys like F2 for setup), then select open in safe mode. Then go to backup and restore, and restore the previous windows. It took care of it, no problem.

  11. To Julie S - your explanation worked. I didn't know how to use that first black window and couldn't get "Out" of the Windows system. Yeahhhhhh. I am so grateful!! Once I was in that black window environment, I could do the System Restore.

Now, I'm NEVER going to use Internet Explorer and will double up on my Anti Spyware and etc....

  12. no body loves me, everybody hates me, think I'll go eat worms...

My mother used to sing that to me!

The repeating virus thing sucks--once I couldn't fix it, and earlier this week it tried again, but this time I stomped it!
